Prairie dogs in captivity may live up to ten years. In companies that use large numbers of cubicles in a common space, employees sometimes use the term "prairie dogging" to refer to the action of several people simultaneously looking over the walls of their cubicles in response to a noise or other distraction. This action is thought to resemble the startled response of a group of prairie dogs.

He brought people different than him to both the metaphorical and physical table through the vessel of shared meals. I went on to college to study global politics where I learned about conflict zones. My textbooks and lectures were filled with maps, graphs and statistics, seldom with any images of the places or people being discussed.
However, I could reference specific episodes of No Reservations and Parts Unknown that filled in the missing context. Be it post-Gaddafi Libya or the Gaza Strip, Bourdain never shied away from embedding himself and ostensibly, the entire audience, into the most challenging situations.click here
Anthony Bourdain’s Noodle Diplomacy
He helped build a broader picture of the world and added something it lacked so dearly, empathy. He turned subjects that resided in history books and news reels into something fully formed and tangible. He forced us to think, to notice, to care.

It was visceral and real. Anthony Bourdain was honest and self-aware. He was merely compelled by his own curiosity and willingness to listen. It took my family more than a decade to even consider visiting the country from whence they came. The relationship or lack thereof between the US and Vietnam was fraught in the years following the fall of Saigon and the end of American involvement in the war.
When the subject of the Vietnam War was inevitability discussed in my classes, I saw the history of my people be boiled down to good guys and bad guys. I tried my hardest to disassociate myself. Anthony Bourdain singlehandedly changed all of this. My mom and I were completely stunned. Neither of us had ever seen our people or our food in this sort of context. I had become accustomed to seeing photos of Vietnamese bodies desecrated by violence, entire villages engulfed in flames.
Movies, books and popular media solely focused on the singular brutality of war. I had never seen my people thriving. Life instead of death. For the first time, an outsider saw our culture beyond its haunted past. I began to be able to see myself and my identity in all of its intricate, beautiful complexity.
His visit made me want to go, more than ever, and I did. Saigon can be described like a massive carnival that is always at maximum capacity. Its various sights, smells and sounds all vying for your attention. He often talked about his desire to retire on a peaceful rice paddy in Central Vietnam. It just so happened that his last trip to the country would be one that went down in history. Bourdain believed in noodle diplomacy. The intentionality in the setting and meal that Bourdain and Obama chose to partake in was monumental.
It was so intimately relatable. Something so unprecedented and paramount. There were no smoke and mirrors. How could that happen? How could that happen again? Where the fuck was I looking when all his horses came in and he built a whole army of kamikaze? He built an army to come and find me. Eight miles high, he walks his path and I follow mine — one tooth for one eye. Here is his army — interspace, here we come. Let England shake, weighted down with silent dead. Another day, Bobby, for you to come home and tell me indifference won.
Smile, smile Bobby, with your lovely mouth.
Man-size no need to shout. Can you hear? Can you hear me now? I cast my iron knickers down. Can you hear — can you hear me now? Let it all — let it all hang out. Damn your chest-beating, just you stop your screaming. Damn your chest-beating just you stop your screaming. All the time he hunting, swimming, fishing, breeding. Good lord you never stop! I was walking through the National Mall thinking about medicinals and how they used to grow there when the ground was a marshland, undisturbed by human hands, and I heard their voices;.
I looked about, what did I see?
